Local Boy Scout Raises Funds for New VFW Flagpole in Langhorne
A local Boy Scout Timothy Bess, soon to be Eagle Scout, is hosting a Veterans Day event, which includes the dedication of new flagpole at a Levittown VFW.
Bess’ Eagle Scout project involved a major fundraising campaign in honor of the local veteran community in Langhorne, PA. He has spent the last six months raising $7000 with the help of his fellow Scouts Troop 121, founded in 1961 in historic Levittown PA), family, and friends. His project involved multiple car washes and donations from many people and organizations, officials said.
Bess, a 17-year-old Levittowner and Boy Scout in troop 121, is near completion of his Eagle Scout Project. He has been involved in scouting since kindergarten and will be completing his Eagle Scout project in the coming months, said Christina Green
The flagpole was purchased from Flagpoles Etc, in Michigan and transported to PA. Local contractors M&M Masonry Restoration and JMW Equipment Company assisted with the installation of the flagpole. A large landscape rock is being donated by Langhorne Quarries, and a plaque is being prepared by Rodriguez Engraving in Langhorne, PA. The old flagpole was removed September 30, and the new one installed on October 7, 2023, Green said..
The dedication ceremony will be held on Saturday, November 11, 2023, at 10 a.m. at the American Legion Jesse Soby Post 148 , 115 West Richardson Avenue, Langhorne 19047.
The now fitted plaque will be unveiled commemorating the past Commander Joseph A. Zalot of Legion Post 148. Bess’ name and his Eagle Scout project completion date will also be on the plaque.
