Harvie Announces Run for Congress, Challenge to Fitzpatrick

Credit: Submitted

Bucks County Commissioner, a Democrat, Bob Harvie announced Thursday that he is taking on Rep. Brian Fitzpatrick (R) in next year’s congressional election.

“Today, I’m excited to announce that I’m running for Congress. I’m running because I love this country, and I love this community – hardworking, patriotic, middle class Americans. But Washington isn’t working for us anymore. People are working longer and harder, but they still can’t get ahead. The American Dream—the idea that if you work hard, you can build a better life for yourself and your family—is slipping further out of reach,” Harvie said.

Fitzpatrick has staved off Democrats’ challenges the last four election cycles. He won the last two races by more than nine percentage points trouncing Bensalem’s Ashley Ehasz.

In Harvie, unlike the past three challenges for the seat (Ehasz and Scott Wallace), Fitzpatrick will face a formidable counterpart who has name recognition and was not helicoptered (Wallace) into the race which impacted the last two candidates.

Pennsylvania’s First Congressional District (PA #1) includes all of Bucks County and a small slither of Montgomery County.

Harvie in his second term as Bucks County Commissioner is a well known name and brand of politics to voters in Bucks County.

He was elected commissioner the first time Bucks County flipped to a Democratic majority at the county level since 1983.

Harvie served as a Falls Township supervisor for 12 years, He spent 26 years as a high school history teacher and also taught American History at Bucks County Community College.

“During this second Trump administration, we’re seeing the worst of those policies on overdrive and they are hurting working families. We deserve better. I’m proud to fight for this community because we need someone who is hungry to build the middle class. I believe we deserve a return to fairness. I’d be honored to earn your support,” Harvie said.
