Bucks County Commissioner Bob Harvie beat Lucia Simonelli by a 2 to 1 margin in the Democratic primary for Pennsylvania’s 1st Congressional District Tuesday.
Harvie will now face off with Rep Brian Fitzpatrick in the November election for Pennsylvania’s First Congressional District in a race Democrats nationally have targeted to take over control of the House.
“This campaign is about working families, lowering costs, and putting people over billionaires. Brian Fitzpatrick talks moderate at home, then votes with Trump in DC. Bucks & Montco deserve leadership that fights for us. Let’s win,” Harvie said.
Simonelli, from Lansdale, a climate scientist, who refused to go away, said “The issues and policies matter. And we’re so grateful for every single person that touched this campaign. The future is ours to build…together.”
Fitzpatrick, who often touts himself as one of the most independent representatives in Congress ran unopposed in the Republican Congressional Primary and has held on to the seat since 2016. The closest anyone has come to beating him was in the 2018 midterms, with candidate Scott Wallace losing by five points.
No one has come close since, even though the seat has been targeted for flipping to the Democrats for several election cycles.
Harvie has and will continue to tie Fitzpatrick to the policies and initiatives of current President Donald J. Trump as inflation continues to soar and gas prices spike.
We have a President who asks “what are you gonna do for me” and we have a Congressman who says “whatever you want.” Every close vote that matters, Brian Fitzpatrick votes with Donald Trump, Harvie recently said.
