A proposed improvement project for the Delaware River Bridge Turnpike is currently under consideration, and your voice matters in what happens next with the undertaking.
No final decisions have been made, and community feedback will help shape the process moving forward.
Residents are encouraged to review the proposal and share their thoughts before public comments close on May 25, 2026.
The community is encouraged to submit thoughts and opinions on the project at this link.
In March the project received $600 million in federal funds to widen the bridge to account for ever increasing traffic numbers the bridge has experienced in recent years and to also make it more secure.
The bridge, officials say, currently carries more than 67,000 vehicles daily, with truck traffic accounting for approximately 16 percent of total volume.
The bridge is a little more than 7o years old and has just two lanes.
“Replacing the… bridge is critical to easing congestion by adding capacity to connect with the planned three lanes on the PA Turnpike to the west and New Jersey Turnpike to the east,” officials have said.
A series of public informational meeting were held last year to discuss the proposed project, with many homeowners on both sides of the Delaware River voicing concerns on the impact of such a project.
