Lower Makefield Police Chief Kenneth Coluzzi plans to retire after more than 24 years of service to the township.

The separation and release documents were approved by the Board of Supervisors, at the November 20th meeting.

Coluzzi, 69, was hired as chief in October 2000, after he retired from the Philadelphia Police Department  where he worked since 1978, earning supervisory and commander roles in the sex crimes unit before retiring from the homicide unit, according to a Bucks County Herald report.

Coluzzi recently served as interim township manager, July 2022 to January 2023, stepping in for former Manager Kurt Ferguson who resigned in July of that year, serving in the dual capacity until current Manager David Kratzer took the helm as lead administrator for the township.

The chief  also headed CityBurbs Group, a consulting firm which assists municipalities with hiring police chiefs. The group was credited with assisting Morrisville (former Chief George McClay) and Bristol Borough (former Chief Steve Henry) in hiring both men.

A search of listings for available Lower Makefield Township jobs yielded no results as of November 30.

According to a Bucks County Herald Nov 19 report the opening has to be advertised.

“No decisions have been made on (the) process relating to a successor at this point,” Kratzer said.

Coluzzi’s official last day on the job as chief was not discussed or set at  the last board meeting.
