Bucks County Recorder of Deeds, Dan McPhillips announced that over 10,000 Bucks County residents & business owners have signed up for the Free Fraud Alert system through his office.
If you own property in Bucks County this service is designed to protect you. It monitors documents recorded in the recorder of deeds office that reference your name or your tax parcel number. Things like Deed Transfers, Mortgages, liens, anything that is recorded, you’ll get a text message or an email alert almost instantly, a spokesperson for the office said.
In April of 2025, Gwendolyn Schell 68 a notary allegedly stole 20 homes via deed fraud throughout the City of Philadelphia, according to the Philadelphia District Attorney’s office.
The service is completely free for all property owners and business owners in Bucks County. McPhillips said he is trying to help property owners by protecting their homes so if that would have happened in Bucks County, PA and those property owners were signed up for Fraud Alert, they would have been notified that someone was trying to “steal” their home.
