The County of Bucks last Tuesday dedicated Bucks County Bridge #304 in Middletown Township in memory of U.S. Army First Lieutenant Lee Fulton Clickner, a Bucks County native who was killed in action during the Vietnam War.
Clickner, 24, of Langhorne, was killed by small arms fire on Oct. 25, 1969, while on patrol in the Quang Nga Province of Vietnam.
The Penn State University graduate entered the Army in 1968 after working for a time as an accountant.
“We don’t know the circumstances specific of [1LT Clickner’s] death and of the patrol he was on, but we can probably rest assured that as someone who was recognized as officer candidate material, and as someone who achieved that rank, that he certainly would have done everything he could do to protect the rest of his men, even if it cost him his own life,” said Commissioner Chair Bob Harvie.
“This honor is obviously the least we can do to recognize him and make sure that his name will be remembered, on behalf of a grateful county and a grateful nation.”
While a student at Neshaminy High School, Clickner was well known for his abilities as a wrestler and in 1962 was named to Neshaminy’s League of Champions.
The bridge dedicated in his honor crosses Core Creek along Silver Lake Road. It is the nineteenth County-owned bridge since 2022 to be named for a local soldier lost in the Vietnam War.
The dedications are part of the County’s Vietnam Veterans Memorial Bridge Program, which honors the 136 Bucks County residents lost in the Vietnam War. The County administers the program in partnership with Bucks County-based veterans’ advocate Ed Preston, who chairs the Pennsylvania Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund (PAVVMF).
