Morrisville Borough Council earlier this month declared a portion of its own zoning ordinance invalid and initiated a curative amendment process to protect the municipality from zoning challenges related to data center developments for 180 days.
Bensalem Township followed by Falls Township also implemented curative amendments recently.
Morrisville officials said they would use the 180 days to prepare new zoning ordinance for data centers, such as their proximity from homes, noise levels, resource use, and size, among others.
The waiting period will “give us time to come up with the proper regulations, see what’s needed, what’s necessary and move forward,” Solicitor Scott Holbert, said.

The resistance to Data Center’s started to build in the Lower Bucks County area in May; reaching a fever pitch last month. It culminated with a town hall type of meeting with representatives from, North Point, PA Dept of Environmental Protection, PECO, and the Morrisville Municipal Authority focused on the impacts of the AI data center under construction in Falls Twp.
