An Election morning crash on I-295 in Middletown Township was caused by deer on the roadway Pennsylvania State Police Troop M Trevose Barracks said in a release issued Monday.

A 61 year-old Morrisville motorist operating a 2022 Toyota Corolla  on I 295 westbound lane at mile marker 4.3 in the left lane when a deer entered the roadway from the left shoulder. The motorist was unable to avoid the deer striking it head on, authorities said.

The Toyota then traveled to a controlled final rest on the right shoulder, State Police said

No injuries were reported on scene.

The Pennsylvania Game Commission is urging drivers to be extra cautious with deer more active this time of year:

Key reminders:

  • Peak season: Deer activity is highest in October–December.
  • Watch dawn & dusk: These are prime hours for deer movement.
  •  Be alert: If one deer crosses, more are usually close behind.
  • Slow down: Especially on roads marked with “Deer Crossing” signs.

Drivers here have a 1 in 62 chance of hitting a deer—one of the highest rates in the nation, state officials say

If you hit a deer:

  • Report dead deer on state roads to 1-800-FIX-ROAD.
  • For injured deer, keep your distance and contact the Game Commission or local police.
