The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced temporary road restrictions will be in place to support traffic flow and security associated with the September 10 Presidential Debate in Philadelphia. The debate takes place at the National Constitution Center (NCC) at 6th and Arch Streets in Philadelphia, beginning at 9 p.m.
Beginning Tuesday, September 10, motorists are advised of the following travel restrictions coordinated with local, state, federal enforcement, and other officials:
Beginning at midnight(tonight)
6th Street will be closed between Callowhill Street and Market Street. During the closure, motorists traveling the eastbound I-676 off ramp to 6th Street will only have access to the Benjamin Franklin Bridge. Motorists traveling in both directions on I-95 will be directed to use the Betsy Ross Bridge or the Walt Whitman Bridge.
Beginning at approximately 7:00 p.m.:
The eastbound I-676 off ramp towards Benjamin Franklin Bridge and 6th Street will be closed. During the closure, motorists will be directed to use the Betsy Ross Bridge and the Walt Whitman Bridge.
Beginning at approximately 11:00 p.m:
The eastbound I-676 off ramp to 6th Street will reopen. However, motorists will only have access to the Benjamin Franklin Bridge, as 6th Street between Callowhill Street and Market Street will remain closed. Motorists traveling in both directions on I-95 will be directed to use the Betsy Ross Bridge or the Walt Whitman Bridge.
Once the event ends and the security perimeter is fully deconstructed, 6th Street will reopen.Philadelphia city streets will also gradually reopen. Motorists can find more information about the city street closures on the City of Philadelphia’s website.
