The Warminster Food Bank recently held a food collection drive at their headquarters in the Town & Country Shopping Center, where dozens of people from the local community took time out from their summer activities to donate over 700 pounds of nonperishable food items and $700 in cash and gift cards.
Donors were also invited to tour the food bank’s headquarters and the food bank treated donors to complimentary soft pretzels, hot dogs, snacks and beverages, as a thank you for their generosity.
The items collected will help to provide monthly groceries and supplies for local families in need. The Warminster Food Bank serves over 12,000 people a year in Bucks and Montgomery Counties.
This food drive was especially important since donations drop off during the summer months. In addition, schools are closed for the summer and that means the end of school lunches for students. For families dealing with food insecurity, school lunches help to stretch their food budgets, and when school is not in session, many families are faced with having to make difficult choices between food and other necessities. Items collected at this event will help to bridge the gap for these families.
“Sadly, people experience food insecurity at all times of the year,” said Mike Cerino, Director, Warminster Food Bank. “We are grateful for the support of those in the community who came out to help their neighbors in need. Their generosity is helping to ease the burden for those we serve.”
