Officials Warn of Turnpike EZ Pass Phishing Scam

The Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission is once again warning E-Z Pass users of a phishing scam employing texts being sent to their phones.

The PA Turnpike put out a warning over the weekend toll payment scams are hitting state residents again.

Some residents have received phishing-attempt text messages claiming to be from the Turnpike’s toll services. State officials said if anyone receives such a text providing a link to pay an outstanding toll amount, do not click on the link, and delete the text immediately.

Similar scams have been reported by toll agencies throughout the country in the the past several days, officials said.

The texts say they are from “Pa Turnpike Toll Services” requesting urgent attention to your account or lates fees would be incurred

E-Z Pass account holders can use approved safe methods to check their accounts such as the official PA Turnpike E-Z Pass website or the PA Toll Pay app available from the Apple App Store, or Google Play store.

Those who receive a fraudulent texts can file a complaint with the FBI’s Internet Crime Complaint Center at www.ic3.gov.

That is a site dedicated to sharing information on Internet crimes across law enforcement agencies, officials said.
