Public Utility Commission Ways for Natural Gas Users to Reduce Heating Bills

With colder weather setting in, the Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission is encouraging natural gas customers to take steps now to manage heating costs. The PUC has created a Winter Utility Bill Checklist to help consumers reduce energy usage, save on heating costs, and access assistance programs if needed.

Winter Utility Bill Checklist:

  • Review Your Utility Bills – Understand your energy usage and the rates you’re being charged.
  • Understand the Impact of Winter Weather – Colder temperatures increase heating demands, which can raise costs.
  • Check Your Natural Gas Price – Compare your utility’s Price to Compare with competitive supplier offers.
  • Save Energy Where You Can – Small adjustments like lowering your thermostat and sealing drafts can make a significant impact.
  • Call Utilities for Help – If you’re struggling with bills, contact your utility to learn about assistance programs like CAPs, LIHEAP, and more.

The PUC also offers tips for saving energy, including servicing your furnace, adjusting your water heater, and using ceiling fans to circulate warm air.

If you have any questions or need further assistance with your LIHEAP application or any other program, please don’t hesitate to contact my office for additional details.

Stay warm and take action now to manage your winter heating costs.
