Theatre Exile is closing its 2024–25 season with a powerful and inventive new work from one of Philadelphia’s most acclaimed voices.
Glitter in the Glass, the East Coast premiere of a wildly funny and deeply thought-provoking new play by award-winning writer R. Eric Thomas, opens June 5 and due to early demand, the production has already been extended through June 22.
The show stars Jennifer Nikki Kidwell as Chelle, a Black artist tasked with replacing a Confederate monument in her childhood neighborhood. What begins as a high-profile public commission quickly spirals into a surreal, time- and space-bending journey through legacy, pressure, and self-discovery. Directed by Ontaria Kim Wilson and featuring a stellar cast including Kishia Nixon and Danny Wilfred, Glitter in the Glass is genre-defying and deeply resonant.
Thomas, no stranger to Theatre Exile, workshopped the piece through their Studio X-hibition series and continues a fruitful creative relationship with the company following their 2021 commission of The Ever Present.
