With the third week of the season completed and the 2024-2025 season in its infancy, even tho a few teams sit at 3-0, no dominant team has emerged yet, but many try to predict what’s to come.

There will certainly be plenty of football in the coming weeks, regardless of how the season ends. Considering that, let’s review last week’s games.
A 24-3 victory over the New England Patriots on Thursday night was a major win for the New York Jets. For the Patriot fans, the night took a different turn. Jets’ WR Tyler Conklin went 93 yards on five carries for the Jets, while Patriots’ WR Demario Douglas, drafted by the Patriots in 2023, went 69 yards on seven carries in a losing cause. Fans saw plenty of football on Sunday and for some reason, there were two games Monday night. Several close games and some blowouts were played this past week, Six of the nine teams received their first win of the season on Sunday.
New York Giants got their first win of the season against the Cleveland Browns on Sunday with a score of 21-15. Started out right for the Browns as they caused a fumble by the Giants and then scored a TD in the first quarter. Giants answered before the quarter was over with a TD of their own. Giants QB Daniel Jones outdid the Browns QB, Deshaun Watson. While both QBs threw two TD passes, Jones threw for 236 yards while Watson had only 196 yards. Eagles and the Saints came together for a Sunday matchup, with the Eagles staging a comeback win against the Saints, 15-12.Several Eagle players were injured during the game – Lane Johnson (concussion), Britain Covey (shoulder), Devonte Smith (concussion) and Darius Slay (undisclosed). Johnson and Smith are in concussion protocol and will probably not play next Sunday. If Smith does not play this upcoming Sunday, it would mean the Eagles could be down top two receivers including the already injured AJ Brown (Hamstring). Slay was injured on a late hit out of bounds. The two Eagle touchdowns were complements of Saquon Barkley who raced past Saints for 65 yards on one of his TDs. Both teams have season records of 2-1. NFL.com footage of the game.
Minnesota Vikings (now 3-0) came to destroy the Houston Texans (now 2-1) and destroy they did by a score of 34-7. Vikings QB Sam Darnold (four TDs), injured in the game, had an MRI and it was determined he has no structural damage to his knee. He is expected back for the next game, said on NFL.com. Denver Broncos (1-2) stunned the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (2-1) by a score of 26-7 giving the Broncos their first win. Bo Nix, Broncos QB, although not credited for any passing TDs, ran for one of the touchdowns. The Bucs defensive line injuries also played a factor in the game. The Tennessee Titans remain winless after Green Bay Packers defeated them 30-14 on Sunday. Even though they are now 0-3 for the season, the Titans believe they can turn it around. But, this Sunday was not the day. Titans’ QB Will Levis was sacked eight times and was intercepted twice, although he completed 26 of his 34 pass attempts, passed for 260 yards and two touchdowns. The Indianapolis Colts met up on Sunday with the Chicago Bears, winning their game 21-16. The Colts stopped the Bears run game and created turnovers to clinch the game. The Bears had a chance to tie it up by halftime but failed to accomplish the scores. NFL.com highlights of the Colts first win.
Pittsburgh Steelers beat the Los Angeles Chargers 20-10 despite the top two Steelers’ running backs Najee Harris and Jaylen Warren were injured during the game. Not known at this time is the extent of the injuries. Steelers are now 3-0 while Chargers are 2-1. Recap of the game here from NFL.com,
Another team went to 3-0 as the Seattle Seahawks blew out the Miami Dolphins 24-3, and the Dolphins falling 1-2 in the first three weeks. With Dolphin’s QB Tua Tagovailoa on IR, Skylar Thompson made his first start for the season and in the third quarter, suffered a painful rib injury and after several minutes on the field being tended to by medical staff, he went to the locker room. This brought third string QB Tim Boyle in to finish the game. Dolphin’s cornerbacks Kendall Fuller and Storm Duck, tackle Terron Armstead, and linebacker David Long Jr were also injured in the game. Carolina Panthers and the Las Vegas Raiders met up Sunday and only one could walk away with the win, one being the Panthers with a score of 36-22. Awesome Andy Dalton is the only quarterback in the league this season with 300 passing yards and three touchdowns in a game. Both teams are now 1-2 for the season. Watch the highlights from NFL.com.
Los Angeles Rams were able to win against the San Francisco 49ers by a score of 27-24 giving both teams a 1-2 season record so far. The Rams scored their final 13 points of the game, the last 10 of them in the final two minutes. Watch this close game here from NFL.com
Detroit Lions (2-1) was back on track with a 20-13 win over the Arizona Cardinals (1-2), but some key players fell to injuries. Lions center Frank Ragnow suffered a partially torn pectoral muscle and is week-to-week. DE Marcus Davenport in what appears to be a season ending injury – according to ESPN report of – torn triceps. LB Derrick Barnes has a knee injury which will take many weeks to heal, Watch NFL.com recap this game.
Another close game on Sunday saw the Baltimore Ravens with their first win against the Dallas Cowboys on a score of 28-25. Ravens dominated the game on the ground and then held on for the win. Both teams now have season records of 1-2. See the Ravens first win here courtesy of NFL.com
Patrick Mahomes and Kirk Cousins went head-to-head during the Kansas Chiefs-Atlanta Falcons game. The Chiefs prevailed squeaking by the Falcons with a score of 22-17, with the Falcons unable to score near the end of the game. Season record stands at 3-0 for the Chiefs and 1-2 for the Falcons. All that can be said for Monday night’s Jacksonville Jaguars vs Buffalo Bills game is the Bills now 3-0 beat on the Jags now 0-3, winning 47-10. Here you can watch NFL.com recap.
The other Monday night game featured the Washington Commanders against the Cincinnati Bengals. Washington held onto a slim lead in the last minutes, beating the Bengals by a score of 38-33. While it was 21-13 at halftime, the Bengals fought back hard especially in the fourth quarter, only to run out of time and lose by five points Commanders are 2-1 for the season and Bengals are looking at a 0-3 record.
