Vice President Kamala Harris & Running Mate to Hold Philadelphia Rally on Tuesday

Vice President Kamala Harris (D) is expected to announce her choice for running mate in the 2024 Presidential election Monday to face former president and Republican nominee Donald Trump and his running mate Ohio Senator J.D. Vance.

Harris is expected to become the official democratic nominee Monday night.

The Harris campaign last week said a tour  of seven key battle ground states will follow the announcement which is set to start in Philadelphia and stretch across the country with stops in western Wisconsin; Detroit; Raleigh, North Carolina; Savannah, Georgia; Phoenix and Las Vegas, according to her campaign.

Since her first visit is to a battleground state, it would seem her decision will be made on Monday. Since Pennsylvania is a swing state, the decision to first visit Philadelphia is two-fold, it could signify Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro to be the running mate or it could strictly be visiting the vote-rich city that started it all in 1776. The rally will be held at Temple University’s Liacouras Center in North Philadelphia with a time as yet to be announced.

Shapiro canceled weekend plans as did some of the others on Harris’ short list, AP News reported.

An unofficial survey of state Democratic operatives conducted over the last 36 hours by Lower Bucks Source was unclear about who Harris would choose to her running mate.  One highly placed state official who is involved in the now elect Harris effort said they are assuming Shapiro is the choice due to the first campaign rally event taking place in Philadelphia.

A second well placed Pennsylvania election source said there’s a lot of misdirection going on out there in the ether right now.

“It reminds me of the final week leading up the NFL draft” where teams are known to put out information designed to misdirect other teams.

“The campaign wants the Trump team on its toes and leaning” was the opinion of the state source,

According to AP News, there are five other candidates the Harris team has been vetting over the weekend with the planned announcement of her choice tomorrow. They are  Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear,  Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker of Illinois, Minnesota Governor  Tim Walz,  as well as Arizona Senator Mark Kelly and Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg.

Harris became the only candidate of choice within 24 hours of President Joe Biden dropping out of the race on July 21.

Democratic National Committee Chair Jaime Harrison, said, Harris secured enough votes to be the party’s nominee on Friday as part of a livestreamed video organized by the Harris campaign. He did not share a state by state vote tally,

The results of the “virtual roll call vote” will be released Monday evening. The virtual voting process started last Thursday, he said.

The Associated Press published an explainer of the full process Democrats employed using the virtual roll call process to choose a nominee.
