The Warminster Township Board of Supervisors took time out to thank both the Warminster Township Police Department and the Pennsylvania Game Commission for their work in safely capturing the American black bear (Ursus americanus) that wandered into the township on July 5,
Township police officers monitored the bear and tracked it to a backyard in the 300 block of Olive Street. At that point, authorities from the game commission were able to safely tranquilize the bear, and transport it to a more appropriate environment. Pennsylvania is within the black bear’s North American habitat range, which means that sightings of this animal, while rare in communities like Warminster, can occur.
“The Warminster Police, working with the Pennsylvania Game Commission, were able to peaceful apprehend the bear,” said Police Chief James C. Donnelly III. “This bear will be relocated to a more conducive location for his growth and prosperity!! Thank you to all of our residents in the Speedway neighborhood for their patience.”
