A new ranking of America’s convenience stores released last week confirmed what residents of Bucks County, and beyond,  have most likely believed for years, that Wawa is tops in terms of customer satisfaction .

As part of its 2024 Convenience Store Study, the analysts at the American Consumer Satisfaction Index (ACSI) said Wawa Wawa came out with an ACSI score of 82 out of a possible 100. In second place is Oklahoma-based chain QuikTrip, with 81 points, followed by Texas-based Buc-ee’s and Arkansas-headquartered Murphy USA tied for third, with 80 points each. Casey’s, based in Iowa, and Sheetz, another Pennsylvania-headquartered chain, finished not far behind with a satisfaction scores of 79 each.

Convenience stores are no longer just a quick stop for gas and snacks — they are becoming serious competitors in the food service industry,” Forrest Morgeson, the ACSI’s director of research and an Associate Professor of Marketing at Michigan State University, said.

According to the study aside from the food offerings at top-ranked chains, factors contributing  to overall satisfaction scores included hours, location, and the convenience and reliability of each store’s apps or mobile-ordering platforms.

Top-ranked chains specialized in ready-to-eat foods prepared in the stores’ kitchens, the study noted.

The top-performing convenience store brands are now on par with fast food chains in terms of food quality and variety, offering customers a wide range of fresh, gourmet options,” Morgeson said.

The years  version of the Convenience Store Study was based on 5,710 completed surveys. Customers were chosen at random and contacted via email between March and September 2024, researcher said.

Wawa is headquartered in Chester Heights, Delaware County.
