Bristol Borough accepted a deed transfer from the owners of the property where the Bristol Regional Rail station sits on Prospect Street and approved an acoustics study for the Trenton Avenue Sound Project at last weeks meeting.
Currently Nona’s Loving Care Learning Center, founded by former school board vice president Kelly Cochran who passed away a little over seven years ago, is located where the old ticket office was located on the property.
Bristol officials said “Nona’s” has under two years left on their lease.
There are only two members left that own this property, said Council President Ralph DiGuiseppe II, and they’re turning the property over to us, which is nice. So, we’re going to have that building and control what goes there.
There are restrictions on what can be done with the property, DiGuiseppe said, we already had a meeting with SEPTA. They have some work that’s ongoing taking place and we’re looking to make +the property look really nice once we take it over in 2025.
According to multiple sources in 2013 and 2014, the Prospect St. site was once considered to be a prime location to move the then five existing Bristol Borough volunteer fire companies. The plan never came to fruition. Now with a consolidated fire company and a grant application to erect a new centralized firehouse, maybe, just maybe, that old plan has been brought back to life. Additionally SEPTA is planning for a full overhaul of the train station and a mobility beautification project was also discussed in April by officials.
In other related council items, members approved to award Harrison Acoustics $11,000 for the sound barrier project to perform a sound study. In April, the borough was awarded a $1.7 million grant that was obtained through Rep. Brian Fitzpatrick, officials said. Mayor Ralph DiGuiseppe III said, prior to the vote accepting the bid, hopefully more money will come in around September, so the work could be done next spring.
Bristol also approved a contract with G&B Construction who bid on the borough’s curb ramp project totaling just under $200,000.00.
