A Bristol Township based non-profit scholarship deadline is fast approaching for future first responders.

The Kenneth “SID” Hopkins Memorial Scholarship Fund was created in 2016 after Hopkins, an EMT and volunteer firefighter in Croydon, died by suicide. Hopkins, who was 38 at the time of his passing  had dreamed of furthering his education to become a paramedic. The scholarship, created by his family, is a way to empower the dreams of students who want to further their education as they hope to become professionals in the first responder field.

If you have a history of community service and are a student working towards becoming a professional in the allied health profession, emergency medical services, nursing, or law enforcement, or fire serviced fields, you are encouraged to apply.

The scholarship deadline is April 30 and you can download an application by clicking here.

Kenneth’s passion was firefighting and his life was driven by his work as an EMT. As a life time member of the Croydon Fire Department, he trained and became certified in many areas of firefighting and went on to serve as a Captain, the website for the fund says.

Scholarships have been awarded to 16 students in the sum of $45,000, since the creation of the fund.

We are committed to continuing to move forward in our efforts to honor Kenny by giving back to the communities he dedicated his life to, the Hopkins family says.

“Its his legacy,” his father said.

.”The scholarship fund also helps students attending the Bucks County Technical High School Emergency Services Program by offsetting the costs for uniforms while attending the school.
