Lower Makefield Township announced traffic signal upgrades will be taking place at the intersection of Big Oak Road and Makefield Road.

The upgrades will start on Monday, April 13, 2026 and will include modernizing traffic signal equipment, the addition of emergency pre-emption, and enhancements to pedestrian facilities at this signalized intersection located within a school zone.

These improvements are part of the township’s ongoing commitment to enhancing roadway safety—particularly in areas with high pedestrian activity such as school zones and walkable corridors—helping to create a safer environment for students, residents, and motorists alike.

This traffic signal modernization project is funded in part through the Automated Red-Light Enforcement (ARLE) Grant Program administered by PennDOT.
