Morrisville’s Truck Ordinance Vote Delayed to Add More Roads to the Ban List

The proposed S. Pennsylvania Avenue truck ban expected to be voted on and approved by Morrisville Borough Council Tuesday is being delayed for one more month so officials could include more streets in the yet to be officially voted on ordinance.

Originally, the truck ordinance covered South Pennsylvania Ave from Philadelphia Avenue to Post Road. Now the borough added Central Avenue, West Post Road, Ohio Avenue, Park Avenue, and Riverside Drive as no-go zones for trucks/tractor trailers weighing over 10 tons.  There was no discussion on why those streets were added to the now revised directive.  Councilwoman Melissa Johnson encouraged the reading off of the streets when the motion to vote was announced and approved.

The newly amended ordinance is expected to be voted on at the December 17th meeting.  Any driver cited for driving on one of the banned roads with a truck weighing over 10 tons will face a fine of $1,000, officials said.

It is estimated that the police department has stopped at least 100 trucks in recent weeks, educating the drivers on the soon to be enacted edict warning truckers of the fines and escalating traffic costs.

Meanwhile official state traffic signage from PennDOT has yet to be put in place. What’s a one more week wait, for the borough that has been seeking relief for this issue for years.

It is expected that the ordinance will be approved at the December meeting, which could mean a very merry Christmas for the southern part of the borough this year.
