If you live in Middletown Township, you are more than likely to have been affected by a blocked crossing or an idling  CSX train at the Woodbourne Road Rail Crossing.

A report on is expected to be released sometime this summer followed by a public meeting, officials said.

PennDOT was approved to conduct a study to improve safety and reduce delays at the Woodbourne Rd and Township Line Rd rail crossings in August of 2024. Funding for the study comes from a grant from the Federal Railroad Administration’s Rail Crossing Elimination program.

Cameras equipped with AI have collected data on train activity, traffic backups, and gate closures over the past year. Additionally, PennDOT has partnered with CSX, SEPTA, and other rail operators to better understand train schedules and operations.

PennDOT is currently developing potential improvement options based on the collected data.
