Part of  road work project is expected to finish by the end of this week in Bensalem Township, Penn DOT announced Friday.

The work on Bristol Road bridge over U.S 1 in Bensalem Township will be completed with the roadway opening by May 27, Penn DOT officials said in a release yesterday.

The bridge, situated between Neshaminy Boulevard and Old Lincoln Highway, has been closed since November 2020 for construction as part of the Section RC2 project for the long-term U.S 1 improvement project.

Improvements extend from south of the Rockhill Drive Interchange to a point north of the Penndel Interchange.

This U.S. 1 Improvement Project focuses on the replacement of aging bridges and highway safety enhancements of an approximate four-mile segment of the U.S. 1 Expressway known as the Lincoln Highway. Situated in Bucks County, the project extends from just north of the City of Philadelphia at Old Lincoln Highway in Bensalem Township to just north of the PA 413 (Pine Street) overpass in Middletown Township and Langhorne Borough, Penn DOT officials said.

This part of the overall work project comes in at a cost of about $111 million.

The entire section is projected to be completed Fall 2026.
