Government and nonprofit agencies are teaming up to revitalize the landscape of one of Bucks County’s most popular natural icons.
The “High Rocks Parknership,” a collaboration led by the Tinicum Conservancy together with the state Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR), Bucks County Parks and Recreation, the Eastern Pennsylvania Alliance of Climbers and the Tohickon Watershed Association, is now seeking volunteers to help with restoration efforts scheduled through October at High Rocks Vista in Upper Bucks.
“Bucks County Parks and Recreation is proud to be a part of this exciting project that promises not only to restore the area’s natural beauty, but to also protect the plants and animals native to High Rocks,” said Parks and Recreation Director Angela Nagle.
Work is set to begin at 9 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 25, with nine additional sessions planned for both weekends and weekdays through late October. Scheduled work includes planting trees, removing invasive plants, erecting deer exclosures and restoring eroded trails.
This project is made possible by support from the Lower Delaware Wild & Scenic Management Council. Interested volunteers are asked to visit the Parknership’s Eventbrite page to learn more and sign up to help.
“With the combination of educators, naturalists and trail builders we have leading each volunteer session, we’re incredibly excited to see how much volunteers will learn, grow and gain from participating,” said Eric Anderson, Executive Director of Tinicum Conservancy. “I think the public at large who visit and use this special place will be delighted by the color, wildlife and vitality they start to see as this ecosystem returns to proper balance and good health.”
The Parknership emerged to combine resources and leverage each organization’s respective expertise toward the shared goal of restoring habitats at High Rocks Vista. High Rocks cuts through both Ralph Stover State Park and Tohickon Valley Park, and is jointly managed by DCNR and Bucks County Parks and Recreation.
