PennDOT announced that core boring operations are planned next week on southbound I-95 in Philadelphia.
Motorists are advised of the following travel restriction:
- Monday, January 20, through Friday, January 24, from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m., the following morning, a lane closure will be in place on southbound I-95 between the Girard Avenue and I-676 interchanges.
Motorists are advised to allow extra time when traveling through the work area because significant backups and delays will occur. All scheduled activities are weather dependent.
The core borings are part of the design phase for PennDOT’s upcoming I-95/GR6 project that will reconstruct southbound I-95 and its structures between Frankford Avenue and Race Street. Section GR6 is scheduled for construction in 2026.
