PennDOT announced that Interstate 95 bridge construction will close a section of Tacony Street in Northeast Philadelphia beginning Wednesday.
Motorists are advised of the following travel restriction:
- Wednesday, October 16, through Friday, October 18, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. the following morning, Tacony Street will be closed and detoured weeknights between Aramingo Avenue and Bridge Street for construction of the new southbound I-95 viaduct at Tacony Street.
During the weeknight closure, traffic from Aramingo/Harbison Avenue will be directed to turn right on Bridge Street and left on Tacony Street. Traffic from Tacony Street will be directed to turn right on Bridge Street and left on Aramingo Avenue/Harbison Avenue.
Motorists are advised to allow extra time when traveling near the work areas because significant backups and delays will occur. All scheduled activities are weather dependent.
The closure is part of PennDOT’s $270 million I-95/BS2 project that will reconstruct I-95 in both directions from Margaret Street to Carver Street. This project is expected to be completed in 2027.
