PECO Activates Emergency Response For Wind Related Outages

Screaming winds and howling gusts have caused a number of power outages in Lower Bucks County Monday so far.

PECO work crews have been activated with staffing at full capacity said Spokesperson Alexandra Coppadge  in brief call to update outage response by the power and gas company this morning.

Coppadge said emergency response protocols are in place to respond to reports of downed power lines caused by damaging winds.

As of 10:30 a.m. two outages have been reported in the area but the high winds will impact work done, PECO officials said.

“If winds are reach 30 mph or higher, work on downed power lines will not be begin until wind intensity decreases due to company and workplace safety guidelines, Coppadge said.

“Its unsafe to be in the buckets with winds at that speed,” she said,

The National Weather Service foretasted severe thunderstorms for the area for much of the day further complicating response to outages, assuring customer needs and reports will be meet in a timely manner,  she said.

With a high wind warning in place and a flood advisory issued earlier this morning for coastal areas work crews are being dispatched for emergent situations that can be dealt with at ground level.

“Oftentimes there are more variables for an outage than is summarized PECO maps, she said.

As per CDC guidelines work crews are fully outfitted with protective gear while they working in public settings to protect customers and PECO employees everywhere.

The high wind warning is in effect to 7 p.m. tonight.
