PennDOT: More Restrictions Planned for Schuylkill Expressway

PennDOT announced more work such as paving, roadway repair, and guiderail installation will occur at night next week on Interstate 76 (Schuylkill Expressway) in Philadelphia.

Motorists are advised of the following travel restrictions:

  • Monday, September 23, and Tuesday, September 24, from, 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. the following morning, the ramps to and from Montgomery Drive to westbound I-76 (Schuylkill Expressway) will be closed and detoured for paving. Montgomery Drive motorists will be directed to use Martin Luther King Jr. Drive, Sweet Briar Drive, Lansdowne Drive and Girard Avenue to access westbound I-76 (Schuylkill Expressway).­ I-76 West motorists will be directed to continue west on I-76 (Schuylkill Expressway), exit at Belmont Avenue and use eastbound I-76 (Schuylkill Expressway) to access Montgomery Drive.­
  • Monday, September 23, through Wednesday, September 25, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. the following morning, the ramp from westbound I-76 (Schuylkill Expressway) to Lincoln Drive will be closed for paving. Motorists will be directed to continue on westbound I-76 (Schuylkill Expressway), exit at Belmont Avenue and use the ramp to eastbound I-76 (Schuylkill Expressway) to access Lincoln Drive.
  • Monday, September 23, through Friday, September 27, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. the following morning, a lane closure will be in place on sections of eastbound and westbound I-76 (Schuylkill Expressway) between the Montgomery Drive and U.S. 1 South (City Avenue) interchanges for paving and guiderail installation.
  • Monday, September 23, through Friday, September 27, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. the following morning, a lane closure will be in place on sections of eastbound and westbound I-76 (Schuylkill Expressway) between the Girard Avenue and 30th Street Station interchanges for concrete roadway repair.

Motorists are advised to allow extra time when traveling through or near the work areas because backups and delays will occur. All scheduled activities are weather dependent.

Under this contract, PennDOT’s contractor will mill and overlay I-76 (Schuylkill Expressway) pavement from U.S. 1 to I-676 (Vine Street Expressway); perform concrete base, shoulder and barrier repair and replacement as needed; construct minor grade adjustments for existing inlets at select locations; replace damaged signs; install new pavement markings, delineators, and rumble strips; and perform bridge repairs.
