PennDOT announced various construction activities including milling, paving and bridge repair will continue at night next week on Interstate 76 (Schuylkill Expressway) in Philadelphia under a $36.8 million project to resurface and repair nearly five miles of the interstate, the associated on-and-off ramps, and more than 20 bridges.
Motorists are advised of the following travel restrictions:
- Tuesday, September 3, through Friday, September 6, from from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. the following morning, the ramp from westbound I-76 (Schuylkill Expressway) to Girard Avenue will be closed and detoured for milling and bridge deck repair. Motorists will be directed to continue on westbound I-76 (Schuylkill Expressway), exit at Montgomery Drive and use the ramp to eastbound I-76 to access Girard Avenue.
- Saturday, September 7, and Sunday, September 8, from from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. the following morning, a lane closure will be in place on sections of eastbound and westbound I-76 (Schuylkill Expressway) between the U.S. 1 and Girard Avenue interchanges for high-friction surface treatment.
- Tuesday, September 3, through Friday, September 6, from from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. the following morning, the ramp from westbound I-76 (Schuylkill Expressway) to Lincoln Drive will be closed and detoured for pipe replacement. Motorists will be directed to continue on westbound I-76 (Schuylkill Expressway), exit at Belmont Avenue and use the ramp to eastbound I-76 (Schuylkill Expressway) to access Lincoln Drive.
- Thursday, September 5, from from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. the following morning, the ramp from Spring Garden Street to westbound I-76 (Schuylkill Expressway) will be closed and detoured for milling. Motorists will be directed to follow the posted detour route to access westbound I-76 (Schuylkill Expressway).
- Tuesday, September 3, through Friday, September 6, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. the following morning, a lane closure will be in place on sections of eastbound and westbound I-76 (Schuylkill Expressway) between the Montgomery Drive and 30th Street Station interchanges for milling.
Motorists are advised to allow extra time when traveling through or near the work areas because backups and delays will occur. All scheduled activities are weather dependent.
