Philly Man Arrested for Aggravated Assault of County Ranger, and Possession of Controlled Substance

A Philadelphia man was arrested and charged early Thursday morning for assaulting a Bucks County Park Ranger in the Silver Lake parking area and drug related offenses.

David Michael Reinhardt, 49, has been charged with single counts of aggravated assault, simple assault, resisting arrest, and three related drug offenses.

According to the criminal complaint two county rangers conducted a vehicle investigation of a blue Ford truck on the 600 block 2nd Avenue.

Police said the suspect  was observed to have glassy blood shot eyes and told the Park Rangers his name was “David Smith.”

The Rangers contacted Buck County Police radio to check state records which  revealed there was no one by that name found registered to the vehicle.

Reinhardt was advised by the rangers, they were conducting an official inquiry and not to lie. While advising the suspect,  one of the two rangers observed a glass pipe with white residue suspected to be a methamphetamine pipe

Reinhardt told police, according to court records, they were just rangers and they didn’t have the authority to arrest him. He was advised to comply and turn his truck off. He refused, restarting the vehicle.

The Rangers advised him he was under arrest,  he started to fight with the rangers while still in the truck. The tussle continued outside the truck to its rear bumper and then officers from Bristol Borough and township police wrestled him to the ground taking him into custody.

The Rangers later identified and arrested him. While reading his rights he also read Penn DOT DL-26 B form for chemical testing, Reinhardt refused to have the tests performed, court records show.

One of the two responding rangers reported pain in his hand, hip, lower back as a result of the scuffle.

Rangers noted Reinhardt wanted by the Bucks County Sheriffs office and his driving license was suspended.

The Rangers also impounded his vehicle.

Reinhardt was arraigned by Magisterial District Judge Gary Gambardella with bail set at 10 percent of $50,000.00

He is currently scheduled to appear in Bristol Borough District Court on April 6 to answer to the charges.
