Rep Tina Davis’ Family Arbitration Bill Heads to Governor’s Desk

Representative Tina Davis (D-Bucks) announced that House Bill 917 (HB 917), the Uniform Family Arbitration Act, is on it’s way to the Governor Josh Shapiro’s desk for signing.

The Uniform Family Law Arbitration Act (HB 917) was written by Davis and her colleague, state Rep. Melissa Shusterman (D-Chester) to provide families with a voluntary and private process for resolving disputes instead of going to court the measure reads. Additionally this will help to save families time, money, and stress in addition to reducing the burden on our legal system and saving taxpayer money, the lawmakers said.

Resolving legal disputes among family members can be an extremely difficult situation, both emotionally and financially. Ranging from disagreements over marital property to determining the proper amount of spousal or child support, family law cases can have a large and lasting impact on all those involved.

The bill, Davis said, is to provide families with a voluntary and private process for resolving disputes instead of going to court. This will help to save families time, money, and stress in addition to reducing the burden on our legal system and saving taxpayer money.

HB 917 was passed by the House last year with unanimous, bipartisan support. It was then amended and advanced by the Senate Judiciary Committee. This week, the bill was also passed by the full Senate, said Davis.

The bill now awaits the Governor’s signature.
