Your Vehicle is Stolen, What to do Next, Advice from Bucks County DA Office

Imagine parking your vehicle in your driveway or somewhere else and whether you were home or away, later on, you find it’s no longer in the spot you last left it.

Not a good feeling, but, advice comes from the Bucks County District Attorney’s Office on what to do in the case of a stolen vehicle.

Auto theft can happen anywhere, to anyone. As stolen cars are often used for other, more violent crimes, and can increase insurance rates, we are all affected.

Why should I be concerned about auto theft?

It affects your safety, the safety of your community, and your wallet as well. No matter if your car is stolen or not, vehicle-related crimes affect everyone. The use of stolen cars in other violent crimes often impacts your community as well. Mail, bills, car registration, work files, or other sensitive information left in a car makes you vulnerable to identity theft and home burglary. Insurance rates increase when vehicles are stolen. All of us pay the price.

In the event that my car is stolen, what should I do?

Contact us to confirm your car has not been towed or impounded. Make a list of your car’s VIN (vehicle identification number), make, model, color, any distinguishing marks or features, and your insurance information. Please notify us as well as your insurance company and financing/leasing company if your car has been stolen.
