Shapiro Names Former Bucks DA, Interim Attorney General with Plan to Nominate for Rest of Term

Moments before Josh Shapiro was sworn in as Pennsylvania’s 48th Governor he officially resigned as the states top prosecutor and names former Bucks County District Attorney as interim AG, with an eye towards the former Bucks prosecutor to finish out the remaining two years of hos term.

Shapiro’s top deputy, Michelle Henry, 54, for six years is expected to fill the vacancy for the next two years.

Henry was appointed as Bucks County’s District Attorney in 2008, after then District Attorney, Diane Gibbons, was elected to the Common Pleas Court with two years remaining in her term.

Her profile rose significantly in 2016 when she was tapped to assist the Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office in the prosecution of former Pennsylvania Attorney General Kathleen Kane on perjury and related charges, according Bucks County Courier Times 

Months later Shapiro offered Henry the job to be his and the states first female Deputy in Harrisburg at the AG’s office where she  was instrumental in the founding and creation of the Children’s Advocacy Center.

The agency works with local public safety, victim advocates and health-care centers investigating and treating children who have been abused.
