PennDOT announced that approximately $20.4 million in Automated Red-Light Enforcement (ARLE) funding will be distributed to 25 municipalities for 31 safety projects, including Penndel Borough.

This investment supports the Shapiro Administration’s commitment to safer, more connected communities and brings the total dollars awarded through the ARLE funding program to nearly $162 million, funding 607 transportation enhancement projects since 2010, said PennDOT officials.

PennDOT distributed nearly two million dollars to Bucks County municipalities PennDOT announced in a press release.  Penndel Borough is receiving $350,990 to modernize traffic signals on Durham Road and Lincoln Highway. Upper Southampton Township received $837,449 and Northampton Township received $760,100, for traffic signal improvements.

The ARLE program in Pennsylvania aims to improve safety at signalized intersections by automating enforcement at locations where data shows red-light running has been a problem.  According to state law, projects that improve safety, enhance mobility, and reduce congestion are eligible for funding. A committee of eight members selected projects based on safety benefits, effectiveness, cost, and local and regional impact. Automated Red Light Enforcement Systems and Automated Speed Enforcement Systems generate revenue for the program.

PennDOT accepts grant applications annually during June, according to PennDOT authorities.
