Bristol Rec Launches Free Intramural Flag Football for Borough Kids

As promised by Bristol Borough officials the recreation program continues to expand its reach and engagement by adding a intramural flag football leagues set to kick off in July.

Borough Recreation Director, Mike Poploskie announced the plans for intramural league for boys and girls grades five through eight, in a recent set of posts to the Boro Recreation Page.

Earlier in the week, Poploskie, announced a flag football league for third and fourth graders to participate in also.

Almost a year to the day of his hiring by Bristol Borough Council, “Pops” has revamped, reworked, and relaunched an effort borough officials glow about publicly and privately.

Not one to take all the credit, Poploskie said at Community Day earlier this month, volunteers to support the recreation effort have come out in droves willing to help in any they can with the free time they have available.

“The response has been amazing” he said.

Both leagues will highlight skills building teamwork, camaraderie and the value of sportsmanship.

Poploskie resigned from his elected role as vice president of the school board last month, to focus more attention on rec related programming.  Shortly thereafter he resigned from his athletic director and teaching position at Mastery Charter Schools, to take a position teaching in the Bristol Borough School District.

It’s a loss for the school board, said School Board President David Chichilitti, but a huge gain for the children of the school district and borough.

The intramural flag football leagues run from July 11 to August 17, with games played at the Otter Street Field.
