Children came from the east, west, north and south wards Wednesday morning welcomed by staff, teachers, and Synder-Girott’s latest addition to staff, School Resource Officer Ashley Beck.
Beck was appointed to the position just as summer launched and was introduced to students of all ages at First Responders Day for campers in July.
She was hired by Bristol Borough earlier this year as a part time police officer. Beck works in the same capacity for Tullytown Borough.
The school board receiving this grant is a great thing, Moors said, it’s going to help the department to continue to form better relationships with kids of all ages in the borough, he said recently.
Moors and School Board President Dave Chichilitti have each said their commitment to keeping students safe at both schools is of the highest priorities.
The grant was secured by the Bristol Borough School District and totals just under $243,000 and is broken up into two parts; security grant $121,211 mental health grant. $121,211, expiring July 31, 2024,ย said School District Business Manager Christopher McHugh.
“The security portion of the grant is being spent on having a full time 8 hour a day (180 days per year) police officer present at Snyder Girotti Elementary. A portion of the money is being spent on having a part time (4 hours per day) 180 days per year police officer to assist Jim Denney at Bristol High School. The remaining funds are being spent on replacing or adding cameras to both school buildings,” he said.
A special assembly was held, with Moors, school district officials and students to discuss threatening language and its consequences. Moreover, “patrols and walk through’s” were increased immediately after the last incident in which a student created a target list last March.ย
Beck, excited about the new role she’ll be playing for students on a full time basis saidย “I”m truly grateful for the opportunity” thanking borough officials for investing their trust in her.
