Dave and Shannan Engle did not expect to usher in 2024 by dealing with the trauma and questions of a fire that destroyed their Levittown home.
The couple with two young boys, two dogs and a cat lived at 42 Poplar Lane in the Pinewood section of Levittown. The two-story home erupted in flames around 7:30 p.m. on New Year’s Eve, displacing the entire family.
Talking with Shannan, she said that her family except for their cat, Allie, was safe. Although she feels Allie is still in the house, she doesn’t know for sure. People are looking for Allie around the neighborhood as it is possible, she escaped during the chaos. But the unknown can be a scary place and that is where they seem to be now. Adding to the unknown, they have no answers yet to the cause of the fire.
With a hitch in her voice and trying to hold back tears, her grief was evident for their home and possible loss of their cat Allie, but she was able to express how very thankful she is for all the support they are receiving.
“Everyone has been here for us.” Items such as jackets were given to the family last night and it appeared that someone was bringing dog food. Currently, a GoFundMe page was organized by her niece and is growing.

The fire is currently under investigation by fire officials.
