“Person of Interest” Takes Own Life In Bensalem Murder Investigation, Cops Say

A “person of interest” died by suicide in Ohio, Bensalem Police said Friday morning as part of the investigation into the Halloween triple shooting that has left a community  grieving. 

Police said, the vehicle used in the triple shooting – murder was identified as a grey 2014 Hyundai Elantra. The suspect vehicle was captured by surveillance cameras at the scene of the murder and by Bensalem Township intersection cameras as it fled northbound on Bristol Pk. after the shooting.

Bensalem Detectives identified the registration plate, which was PA JHF-2866. It was also determined that the vehicle was previously stolen out of Bristol
Township.  The vehicle and registration plate were entered into the National Criminal
Intelligence Center (NCIS) as a felony vehicle, authorities said.

“The Bensalem Police Department and the Bucks County District Attorney’s Office had also developed 19-year-old Sean Hughes, from Morrisville, as a person of interest in the murder based on their investigative leads and tips from the public,” police said. .

Hughes took his own life when the Marysville Police Department in Ohio, observed the 2014 Hyundai Elantra and attempted to conduct a traffic stop based on a License Plate Reader hit, said police.

He failed to stop and a pursuit ensued. The driver of the vehicle eventually exited the
vehicle and ran on foot. When police located the driver, he was dead from a self-inflicted
gunshot wound. as Sean Hughes, the person of interest in the murder, said Police.
On Wednesday police released the name of the 14 year-old shot and killed Peter Romano, who was a student at Snyder Middle School and Bensalem resident He was pronounced dead upon arrival at Jefferson -Torresdale Hospital, police said.

Bensalem Police responded to the area of Bristol Pike and  Woodbine Avenue for reports of a large group of juveniles fighting Tuesday night. Upon arrival, Bensalem Police found three shooting victims at that location.

“Witnesses stated that the shots were fired from a vehicle that was parked at Woodbine Avenue and Bristol  Pike. After the shooting, the vehicle then fled the scene at a high rate of speed northbound on Bristol Pike,” police said

The other two  victims were 17 years old and 19 years old. The 19-year-old male was treated for gunshot wounds to his lower extremities and released last night. The 17-year old is still in the hospital in stable condition and will receive surgery to repair injuries to both legs, officials said.
“We understand that people in our community are affected emotionally by this tragedy, and some to the extent that they may wish to take the law into their own hands. This must not happen. If anyone has a tip, a lead, or information regarding this incident, please report it to the Bensalem Township Police Department. We will continue to investigate this homicide so that we can hold all people responsible for it accountable to the fullest extent of the law,” Bensalem Police said in a release.
Investigators did not say if Hughes was and is the only suspect connected to the triple- shooting. They did say they “will continue to pursue all leads in our attempt to identify any other potential suspects engaged in the planning or solicitation of this crime, including occupants of the vehicle used in the murder.”
Lower Bucks has received numerous “tips on the investigation covering a wide range of information, and accounts of the triple shooting and murder.  One such tip is connected to an arrest warrant filed in recent days for gun related offenses. The publication attempted to obtain information on the arrest warrant filed Friday morning, however officials have not responded to the media outlets request as of publication of this story.
Meanwhile the Romano family on Wednesday launched a Go-Fund Me effort to pay the young man’s funeral costs. To date more just under $17,000 has been raised with contributions coming from just under 330 people.
A candlelight vigil was held  Thursday night to memorialize “Peter” in Bensalem, Fox 29 reported.
