Commander of Troop K in Philadelphia Captain James Kem visibly shaken by the deaths,  said the troopers were responding to a report of someone walking on I-95 southbound, just before reaching the sports complex. At 12:45, they met with the individual who was in the left hand lane.

As the two officers were approaching the suspect, a vehicle traveling at a high speed struck all three individuals. The impact was reported to be so great that the troopers went flying into the northbound lane of I-95, he said.

Upon arrival of backup, witnesses were performing CPR on the officers, but to no avail, said officials.

“Right now we are conducting an active investigation that is DUI related” Kem said,

Kem said investigation was now an active DUI investigation.

“We’re here today to mourn the loss of two of Pennsylvania’s finest. Troopers Mack and Sica made the ultimate sacrifice this morning while assisting a citizen in need. These Troopers personified our departments core values of honor service, integrity, respect, trust, courage and duty. These values were exemplified this morning as they braved traffic to assist a citizen whose own life was in danger…there is no greater selflessness, said Commissioner of the Pennsylvania State Police Colonel Robert Evanchick.

“It’s a very sad day for Pennsylvania. Three families mourning the loss of loved ones” said Wolf.

A processional, law enforcement sources report, will take place for Trooper Mack into Bristol Borough later today.

No additional information has been released by police at this time, including the name of the pedestrian struck and killed.

Congressman Brian Fitzpatrick (R-PA-1) took to social media to share his condolences to both families

“An incredibly sad day for PA-01 and the entire law enforcement community. Early this morning, 33-year-old Trooper Martin F. Mack III, resident of Bristol Borough and member of the St. Mark Parish community, was tragically struck and killed by a driver on I-95, as he was trying to come to the assistance of a pedestrian. I am deeply saddened for his wife, young children, extended family, and friends, as well as the family of Trooper Branden T. Sisca.” he said.

Lower Bucks Source extends its deepest sympathies to the Mack and Sica families for their loss.
