Bensalem Announces School Bus Safety Initiative to School Kids

Bensalem Township Police in partnership with the township school district announced a new school bus safety initiative Tuesday.

Less than a week after a Croydon woman was charged with DUI and aggravated assault of local girl  she struck with her vehicle while the student was attempting to board a school bus.

Township officials are “cracking down” on motorists who fail to stop school bus flashing lights in the community.

Bensalem Police Officers will now be riding on school buses as part of the effort, officials said.

When anyone fails to stop for the flashing signals, a trailing police vehicle will be notified and the violator will be stopped and cited for the violation. Upon conviction, this violation carries penalties to include a $250 Fine, 60 Day Suspension of your Drivers License and 5 Points on your License, officials said.

As part of the new initiative Township Director of Public Safety Fred Harran posted a public service message detailing the effort with Motor Patrol Unit Officer, Tim Henehan

“Priority number one is keeping our school children safe” Harran said.
