The Bucks County District Attorney’s Office honored two prosecutors for their outstanding work and public service last week during our annual awards ceremony at the Bucks County Justice Center.
Deputy District Attorney John T. Fegley received the award for Exceptional Public Service, Professionalism and Integrity and Assistant District Attorney David E. O’Beirne was honored for Outstanding Performance. Both were nominated and voted on by their peers who recognized their excellence over the past year.
District Attorney Jennifer Schorn said she could not be prouder of the two award winners.
Fegley joined the Bucks County District Attorney’s Office in January 2022 and serves as the Office’s Chief of Appeals. He previously served as the First Assistant District Attorney for the Schuylkill County District Attorney’s Office from 2014 to 2017 where he oversaw all appeals and Post Conviction Relief Act petitions. He has also worked in the District Attorney’s Offices in Berks County and Philadelphia.
Fegley earned his law degree from Temple University’s Beasley School of Law and his bachelor’s degree from Albright College.
Colleagues described Fegley as the “unsung, passionate, knowledgeable, fearless leader of the appellate unit,” whose door is always open for any question, Schorn said. “You are such an asset to this office. You have been a keystone in maintaining convictions.”
O’Beirne is a member of our Special Victims Unit, which handles sensitive cases involving sexual assault, domestic abuse and crimes against children, the elderly or those with disabilities. In addition to his work with SVU, O’Beirne is also part of our Accelerated Rehabilitative Disposition (ARD) program, a pre-trial intervention program for first time non-violent offenders.
He joined the Bucks County District Attorney’s Office in 2020 after graduating from Charleston School of Law. He also holds a Master of Business Administration from Mount St. Mary’s University and an undergraduate degree in Business at Lehigh University, where he also played football.
Just like his days on the gridiron, O’Beirne continues to be a team player, District Attorney Schorn said. “You will run through a brick wall for us.”
His colleagues described him as hard-working and someone who never complains and treats everyone with respect. “We all work so hard and the fact that your peers chose you as someone deserving of this award, I couldn’t be more pleased,” Schorn said. O’Beirne gave a heartfelt speech, thanking his family and colleagues. “I am truly humbled to get this award and from the bottom of my heart, I thank you,” he said.
