A 63-year-old Philadelphia man is lucky to still be alive today and moreover lucky that he didn’t seriously injure other motorists as he was charged with reckless driving and DUI related offenses after a head-on collision on I-95 in Bensalem Township last month, Pennsylvania State Police say.
The crash occurred just before midnight on March 15 near mile marker 36.3 on I-95 northbound in Bensalem, according to Trevose Barracks state troopers.
According to court records Ramil Salakhutdinov was driving his 2017 Honda Accord the wrong way (southbound in the northbound lane) on I-95 at the above location and struck a 2017 Cadillac XT5 head on.
Salakhutdinov’s Honda, according to police, sustained major damage to its front passenger side wheel well.
The XT5 sustained disabling damage to its front passenger side bumper/wheel well.
Salakhutdinov fled the scene and was later located around the corner from the crash location, State Police said.
The XT5 driver sustained unknown minor injuries while Salakhutdinov was unharmed, authorities said in court papers.
Both vehicles were towed from the scene.
Salakhutdinov was found to be DUI, troopers from Trevose Barracks said. He is scheduled for a May 20 court date in front of Magisterial District Judge Michael W. Gallagher.
State Police were assisted on scene by Bensalem Police, Fire & EMS and Rob’s Towing.
