An incredibly emotional day in Bristol Borough as Police Sergeant Carlos Rivera signs off for the last time, officially retiring after nearly 30 years of dedicated service to the community. Surrounded by dozens of loved ones, current and former law enforcement professionals, district judges, and local officials, Sgt. Rivera was given a heartfelt send-off during a ceremony outside police headquarters.

Rivera who is also an Army veteran serving two tours during wartime, has always been a quiet yet steady presence in the department, who has made a myriad of felony arrests during his distinguished career.

The retiring sergeant, during his last sign off, was momentarily overcome with emotion as the reality of his departure from the department started to sink in. He had to pause momentarily to gather himself before completing his goodbye, saying it was an “honor to serve.”

Throughout his distinguished career, Sergeant Rivera exemplified professionalism, integrity, and an unwavering commitment to public service. His leadership and dedication have left a lasting impact on both the department and the community he faithfully served, Chief of Police Joe Moors said.

Among his many accomplishments, Rivera was instrumental in creating the department’s first bicycle patrol unit. His vision helped create a more approachable and community-focused style of policing, strengthening relationships between officers and the residents they serve, Moors pointed out.

This was the second send off into retirement of a Bristol Borough Police officer in June. Sgt Pete Faight said his goodbyes about three weeks ago.

“I have met in so many departments he is the only guy that nobody has ever questioned his character or spoken a bad word about the man he is,” PBA President Sgt Chuck Palmer, said.

“I just want to thank the community for being for me and to let them know to continue doing what they’re doing in keeping each other safe. I am really proud that I could serve in the town I was born and raised in,” Rivera said.

He said he has no immediate specific plans with what he’ll do with his free time.

“I’m sure I’ll find something to do” Rivera said.
