Bristol first responders rescued a man in the midst of medical emergency on Monday night from sewer pipe on the grounds of Lower Bucks Hospital.
The Bucks County Rescue Squad, Bristol Fire Company and Goodwill Hose Company #3 and Bristol Borough Police were dispatched to the rear of Gaudenzia House, 501 Bath Rd for a man in a sewer pipe report Monday night just before 8 p.m.
Bristol Borough Fire Chief, Herb Slack said first responders located a male subject who was curled up in the outfall of storm system drainage pipe in an area behind the treatment facility.
The original call out for fire crews was for a man stuck in a pipe, Slack said, but was changed to a “confined space rescue.” Fire officials performed an atmosphere check with a 4 gas meter and determined to air to be safe for first responders, said the Bristol Borough Fire Chief.
Slack said, fire crews assisted the man with extricating himself from the pipe and he was transported to Lower Bucks Hospital by the Bucks County Rescue Squad for medical treatment.
Bristol Borough Chief of Police, Steve Henry said the incident was a medical emergency in response to questions about the incident.
The man provided a Bristol Township address and is 43 years of age, officials said
When fire crews arrived on scene a chain lock had to be cut away in order for rescue personnel to gain access to the fenced off area where the man was located, Slack said.
No information is available about the mans medical condition as of publication time.
