A Bristol based company donated a generator to the Bristol Borough School District saving the district at at least $100,000.00 and now enabling the high school to become a shelter in emergency situations.
The donation by the Dow Company came to fruition as a result of at least a year-long effort by Emergency Manager Merle Winslow, said outgoing Superintendent Dr. Rose Minnitti.
We were able to get a generator from Dow and we placed it at the high school. It was funded through a grant that was provided through Dow, Minnitti said.
The generator has arrived. Its more or less a power plant. Its big enough to run the whole school, said Winslow.
Winslow explained the process of acquiring the power station, started originally when he came on as emergency manager and performed a survey of the different shelter sites in town; what they had, and what they needed. One of the identified needs was a generator.
The generator was a part of Roman Haas’ initial purchase when the engineering building was constructed. They tried to sell that building for three months and then decided to demo it, he said.
The MayorΒ (Joe Saxton and I went to Justin Lamb of Dow and we really lucked out. That generator new was in the $100 K range with very little wear and tear on it, and the deal was made, Winslow said.
The generator allows the high school to be used as another shelter site, if needed, like Synder-Girotti has been.
“Mr Winslow I want to thank you, You had contacted me over a year ago and said you were looking into this. You pursued it and it came to fruition” said school board President David Chichilitti.
With all the equipment and the generator its probably worth $200,00.00 Chic said, and we want to put a plaque on it with all the volunteers names on it who helped make this happen… we thank you for your hard work, he said.
