Outgoing Third District Fire Chief Howard McGoldrick takes the teaching and informing part of his role in leading emergency responses the fire company responds to very seriously.
Whenever Lower Bucks Source has a fire related question on calls fire crews respond to he takes the time and makes a concerted effort to explain answers/responses in fire talk and layman’s terms.
Late last week McGoldrick, after spending hours adding captions. explained to viewers in plain talk the work Third District Volunteer fire fighters performed at the September 17 fire at the Levittown Trace Apartment Complex on Ford Road in the Levittown section of Bristol Township.
Crews ventilated the peak of the roof and then started trenching to control the fire. When the fire bypassed the trench they switched to master stream operations to suppress the fire in the “B” exposure area. Low water pressure was an issue throughout the call and frustrated the crew, the fire officials said.
The video of the ride from Tower 14’s basket to the roof of the burning building and “trench cutting” done on the roof of the spreading 3-alarm fire is worth watching. It is a professional Fire Chief’s commentary on the firefight that early morning.
Earlier Monday Bristol Township Fire Marshal Kevin Dippolito said a cause of the fire had yet to be determined.
“I am still waiting for the insurance company to involve an electrical engineer. There are several different insurance companies involved so it takes some coordinating,” Dippolito, said.
Late last week Congressman Brian Fitzpatrick (R-PA-1) hailed the lifesaving – you jump I’ll catch you efforts of Bristol Twp Police Officer Michael Leonhauser.
