Late Friday, PennDOT officials provided details to Lower Bucks Source about the scheduled motorist and pedestrian safety improvements to be implemented at the Rt 13 Beaver St-Beaver Dam Road intersection.
The changes come in the wake and outcry after 12 year-old Josiah Grant was struck and killed last summer.
PennDOT said the following additional safety measures will be installed at the intersection:
- Centerline lane separator curb will be extended to the existing crosswalk.
- Installing pavement markings around the radius of the intersection with 24” white markings to enhance the travel lanes and shoulders.
- Turning vehicles yield to pedestrians signage.
- Additional No U-Turn signage will be added overhead to prevent vehicles from making U-Turns at the crosswalk at the request of the municipality.
The work is scheduled to begin Tuesday, October 22, with completion expected on Friday, October 25.
Bristol Township said it’s planning to place cameras that serve as automatic license plate readers (LPR’s) at two intersections along Rt 13 (Beaver Dam and Edgely Roads) at last month’s council meeting which community advocates say will provide an extra level of safety by slowing down speeders traveling on the roadway that stretches across Lower Bucks County from Bensalem to Morrisville and beyond.
