The cause of a late Saturday night car fire in Bristol Borough is under investigation by authorities

Tipsters reached out to Lower Bucks Source early Sunday morning after the fire was cleared.

Each of the tipsters said they heard loud “pops” followed by a “bang,” seeing a vehicle “engulfed” by flames on the Canal Path off of Washington Street.

One tipster thought the pops were perhaps gun shots, however that report is unconfirmed.

Bristol Borough Fire Chief Herb Slack referred the publication to Borough Police about any gun shot reports but added “the popping sound most likely was the result of the tires failing from the heat.”

In addition Slack said at 23:45 hours, Bristol Borough Fire Companies 50, 51, 52 and 25 responded to a reported dwelling fire at Washington St and Canal Path. arriving companies found a fully involved vehicle.
