A 53-year-old man was sentenced last week to three to six years in prison for the repeated abuse of his then girlfriend.
Ali Harrison-El, of Bristol Township, was found guilty by Common Pleas Judge Charissa J. Liller during a waiver trial for assaulting the victim on two occasions, on Dec. 31, 2022, and Feb. 18, 2023.
Liller found him guilty of two counts each of simple assault and harassment and one count of theft by unlawful taking.
During sentencing, Liller said Harrison-El, who has a significant criminal history, is a risk to public safety and has never accepted responsibility for his actions. She also noted that he repeatedly violated his bail conditions that required him to have no contact with the victim, even contacting her while he was incarcerated.
On Dec. 31, 2022, Bristol Township Police responded to the Wawa, 5900 Bristol Pike, where a woman had called to report being assaulted by her boyfriend. The assault happened at a home in the 4900 block of Beaver Dam Road. The victim told police Harrison-El punched her in the head and chest and struck her in the stomach with a curtain rod. Harrison-El then took her phone, so she could not call the police. She walked to the Wawa to call 911.
Police observed bruises and redness on her face, scratches and cuts on her fingers and arms and a red mark on her stomach. Harrison-El was charged weeks later.
Less than two months after the first assault, on Feb. 18, 2023, police were dispatched to the Beaver Dam Road address for a domestic disturbance. The female caller reported being assaulted. The victim told police she got into an argument with Harrison-El, and then he began throwing items at her as she called police. She said he slapped and shoved her, causing injuries to her elbow and leg.
This case was investigated by the Bristol Township Police Department and was prosecuted by Deputy District Attorney Thomas C. Gannon.
